Green Lane Junior School was the first of the new schools that the old Monmouthshire Education Authority built in Caldicot.At one time well over 300 seven to eleven year olds were being taught on this site but now, with the town being served by four other primary or single stage schools, and because of the general decline in the the pupil population that many Monmouthshire schools are encountering, there are about 110 pupils on roll.In recent years Green Lane Junior School has had to face a number of challenges. In the Eighties and Nineties the building was poorly maintained and in 1999 the school was threatened with closure because of structural defects. This was met with considerable opposition from the local community and eventually the county council agreed to spend £250,000 on reparing part of the original building and purchasing four demountable classrooms.
