Penmachno, is a small village located in the Machno Valley, which is situated in the Snowdonia National Park. The Valley is a close knit Welsh Speaking community, and there are many activites all year round which bring the community closer together. The hilly surroundings make this a brilliant place to go hiking and the forestry is a great source of biking tracks, which are very popular. There are two rivers which connect to the Afon Conwy, which are Afon Machno and Afon Glasgwm.Penmachno used to be a thriving area, with the slate quarry situated in Cwm Penmachno, but after its closure in the 1960s the vilage and surrounding area saw a gradiual decline. There used to be up to 30 shops in the village, but in 2000, the last shop closed which is a massive loss to the community.
